Last weekend, Steve Maclin went up against Adam Copeland at Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling’s Northern Rising event in Toronto, Canada, aiming to disrupt Copeland’s homecoming. Although Maclin didn’t come out on top against the “Rated-R Superstar,” he revealed his future aspirations in the wrestling world.
MLP has built a strong relationship with All Elite Wrestling over the past year, and after facing one of AEW’s leading talents, Maclin expressed his interest in joining the Jacksonville-based company during a recent interview with TSN. “Yeah, I’m always interested in that side of the business with AEW,” Maclin said. “Especially since my wife is there, along with many of my friends — my best friend Josh Alexander, the Rascalz [Myron Reed, Zachary Wentz, and Dezmond Xavier], and several other TNA alumni. Plus, there are plenty of talents on the AEW roster I’ve known for a long time. There are dream matchups I could have, and if that came true and I ended up there, it would be incredible. I’d love the chance to perform on ‘AEW Dynamite,’ ‘Collision,’ or Ring of Honor.”
Deonna Purrazzo, Maclin’s wife, has been a key AEW star for three years and also appeared in two MLP matches in 2026. Josh Alexander also participated at Northern Rising last weekend, defeating Stu Grayson in a Canadian Title Unification match. With Maclin having just headlined MLP against Copeland, fans will be watching closely to see if his showing was enough to attract AEW President Tony Khan’s attention.
Fan Take: This development is exciting for fight fans as it highlights the growing synergy between promotions like MLP and AEW, potentially bringing fresh talent and compelling matchups to a wider audience. If Maclin joins AEW, it could invigorate the sport with new storylines and rivalries, enhancing wrestling’s appeal and competitiveness.
