Booker T revealed that he was originally set to partner with Bad Bunny for a tag team match at WrestleMania 37. Instead, Damian Priest ended up teaming with the music star to face The Miz and John Morrison.
He shared this information on his Hall of Fame podcast, co-hosted with Brad Gilmore, in response to a fan question about why he never wrestled Bad Bunny. Booker explained, “I didn’t want to wrestle against Bad Bunny. The plan was actually for me and Bad Bunny to team up, not Damian Priest and Bad Bunny.”
When asked why the change occurred, Booker said there were “certain reasons” he chose not to disclose. Gilmore probed whether Booker seriously considered participating, to which he replied, “Not strongly enough.”
Booker also highlighted how Bad Bunny admired him growing up, even dedicating a Grammy-winning song titled “Booker T” in his honor. Bad Bunny performed this song at the 2021 Royal Rumble, during which Booker joined him and later got involved physically with Miz and Morrison. The track won Best Rap/Hip Hop Song at that year’s Latin Grammy Awards.
Back in February 2021, Booker dismissed rumors of a possible WrestleMania match for himself as “100% a rumor” during his podcast, noting that no one had approached him about it. He expressed his preference for Damian Priest to have the spotlight, calling him “the guy that’s on television right now.”
Supporting this, Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer reported around the same time that the original plan was for Bad Bunny to team with Priest. The duo went on to defeat Miz and Morrison on Night 1 of WrestleMania 37 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on April 10, 2021.
Fan Take: This insight into WrestleMania’s behind-the-scenes decisions highlights the evolving intersection between wrestling and mainstream celebrity culture. For fighting fans, incorporating high-profile personalities like Bad Bunny alongside established wrestlers like Damian Priest not only boosts visibility but also paves the way for new storytelling opportunities that can elevate the sport’s reach.
