Los Angeles (AP) — Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand suffered an injury to his left leg during the second period of their game against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night. The injury occurred after Marchand was struck in the face with a stick by Kings defenseman Brandt Clarke with 52.6 seconds remaining in the period, causing him to twist and collide with the right post, resulting in his left leg bending unnaturally.
After the incident, Marchand remained on the ice for several minutes while being assessed by a trainer. Teammates Brady Tkachuk and Niko Mikkola assisted him off the ice, as he couldn’t put any weight on his leg. He was eventually helped back to the locker room. Clarke was penalized with a four-minute double minor for the infraction.
Marchand was not present on the bench to start the third period. The 38-year-old player is in his third season with the Panthers, having spent the previous 16 seasons with the Boston Bruins. He was traded to Florida in March 2025 and contributed to their second consecutive Stanley Cup victory that same season.
This game also saw Clarke penalized twice; his first was for interference against Eetu Luostarinen earlier in the period. Luostarinen was briefly shaken up after a cross-check from Clarke but was able to return to the game.
