Jim Ross is scheduled to undergo a second brain surgery on Wednesday morning to fix a problem with the shunt that was implanted in his head back in August. A recent CT scan detected bleeding, prompting his surgeon to deactivate the shunt.
Ross shared the update on X Monday night, stating, “Getting another brain surgery Wednesday morning to address an issue with my shunt. Positive thoughts appreciated. Thanks.”
In the latest episode of Grilling JR, released Tuesday, Ross didn’t mention the upcoming surgery but revealed to co-host Conrad Thompson that his surgeon had already turned off the shunt. He explained, “My surgeon who did the surgery on my head turned the shunt off because it was causing some issues, some problems. With the shunt on, my balance and walking were significantly better, but with it off, I have to be more cautious.”
He attributed the change to the CT scan results: “The scan showed some concerning findings. My surgeon acted quickly after reviewing the dye tests to understand what was happening. It was bleeding, which was causing these terrible headaches and why the shunt was turned off.”
Additionally, Ross shared that his surgeon arranged for him to see a new specialist in Oklahoma City this week, and an oncologist also reviewed his scans. His daughter, who is a licensed physician assistant, and his granddaughter, a nursing student at the University of Oklahoma, attended an appointment with him to discuss his MRI. “I’m still on the road to recovery and remain hopeful about the results,” he said.
Since August, when the shunt was implanted to drain excess brain fluid, 74-year-old Ross has faced several health challenges. Two doctors advised against his planned travel to London for the All In event. By September, he had lost over 50 pounds and required nursing care twice weekly. Last week, he mentioned that doctors were investigating a spot on his kidney and that the shunt had caused severe, blistering headaches that disturbed his sleep.
