Honda has confirmed that Somkiat Chantra will continue to partner with Jake Dixon for the 2027 WorldSBK season, leaving five seats still up for official confirmation. The available spots theoretically include two positions at Motoxracing Yamaha, as well as single Ducati seats managed by MGM, Motocorsa, and Goeleven.
However, GPOne.com reports that MGM has yet to secure the necessary funding to participate in 2027, raising concerns about their future in the championship. “There is a real risk that MGM will be unable to continue its Superbike adventure,” the report highlights.
This uncertainty also casts doubt over Tarran Mackenzie’s plans. Mackenzie started the season strong with a fourth-place finish at Phillip Island and a top-five result at Misano, but he suffered serious injuries—fractures to his left tibia and fibula, collarbone, and shoulder blade—at his home race in Donington. Loris Baz replaced him at Cremona, yet MGM hopes to see Mackenzie return for the final two rounds of the WorldSBK season.
Meanwhile, Lorenzo Baldassarri’s Goeleven team is reportedly planning to expand to a two-rider Ducati lineup for next year. Currently, the 17 riders confirmed for 2027 are competing on six Ducatis, four Yamahas, two BMWs, two Hondas, two Bimotas, and one Kawasaki. Additionally, next season will usher in WorldSBK’s new era with Michelin as the official tire supplier.
Fan Take: This developing situation is crucial for fans as it shows how financial challenges can impact team stability and rider lineups, potentially reshaping the competitive landscape. The introduction of Michelin tires adds another layer of excitement and unpredictability, promising renewed battles and strategies for the 2027 season.
