Christopher Bell Claims Third Straight Victory of 2025 NASCAR Season at Phoenix Raceway

The NASCAR Cup Series has kicked off its 2025 season with an intense four-race stretch, where Christopher Bell has already surpassed what many Cup drivers haven’t achieved in four full seasons. Bell secured his third consecutive win by outpacing his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin in a two-lap sprint finish, which was triggered by a caution involving another Joe Gibbs Racing driver, Ty Gibbs.

Following a crash at the Daytona 500, Bell rebounded with a victory at the Atlanta circuit the previous week. He is the first to claim three straight wins since Kyle Larson in 2021 and the first since Kevin Harvick in 2018 to win the second, third, and fourth races of a season. Bell held a strong lead when Gibbs crashed, but Hamlin was able to keep pace during the restart. Ultimately, Bell edged out Hamlin on the backstretch and defended his position through the final corners for the win.

Kyle Larson finished third, Josh Berry was fourth, and Chris Buescher came in fifth. Bell dominated much of the race, leading for 103 laps and establishing himself as the driver to beat from the start.

An important element of Sunday’s race was the use of optional soft tires as NASCAR and Goodyear tested compounds for the upcoming Phoenix championship races. Teams had two sets of these faster but less durable tires, highlighting strategic decisions about tire usage. Ryan Preece went all in on the optional tires early, but most leaders, including Bell, completed the race on primary tires after roughly 40 laps on optionals. The optional tires showed less durability but remained consistent, adding a critical strategic layer for the four drivers competing in the title chase later this year.

Bell has solidified his status as a leading early favorite for the championship, having made the Final Four in three of the last four seasons and standing as a top contender within Joe Gibbs Racing—even surpassing Hamlin, the team’s most successful driver historically. While Bell hasn’t won a Cup title yet, his 12th career victory and consistent finishes from 12th place or better since 2021 suggest it may only be a matter of time.

A major crash occurred during Stage 2 involving Justin Haley, Chase Briscoe, Shane van Gisbergen, Brad Keselowski, and others. Additionally, Katherine Legge, known for her sports car and IndyCar career, made her NASCAR Cup Series debut as the first woman to start a Cup race since Danica Patrick in 2018. Unfortunately, Legge experienced two incidents, including a collision with Daniel Suarez, which resulted in a 30th place finish for her and 23rd for Suarez.

Final race results were:
1. Christopher Bell
2. Denny Hamlin
3. Kyle Larson
4. Josh Berry
5. Chris Buescher
6. William Byron
7. Alex Bowman
8. Kyle Busch
9. Zane Smith
10. Chase Elliott
…and beyond.

Fan Take: Christopher Bell’s early dominance brings fresh excitement and a new storyline to the NASCAR season, showcasing emerging talent ready to challenge established stars. This momentum could spark greater competition and fan engagement as the season progresses, making the championship race more unpredictable and thrilling.
