MUNICH – Luis Enrique expressed that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is optimistic about securing their first Champions League title following a decisive 5-0 win against Inter Milan in Munich. He mentioned aspirations to “conquer” the FIFA Club World Cup and likened it to a “Cherry on the Cake.”

The victory was marked by two goals from Désiré Doue and Achraf Hakimi, with contributions from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Senny Mayulu, allowing PSG to follow in the footsteps of Marseille, who won the European championship in 1993, becoming the second French team to achieve this.

This triumph capped off a remarkable season, adding the Champions League title to their successes in Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France.

PSG is set to participate in the inaugural Club World Cup in the US this summer, facing Atletico Madrid in Pasadena, California, on June 15 for their opening match.

“On my first day at PSG, I communicated in my initial press conference that my primary goal as a coach is to fill our trophy cabinet,” Enrique said. “The Champions League was the missing piece, but now we’ve accomplished that.”

“With that box checked, our ambition remains high, and we will strive to conquer further.”

“The Club World Cup is an incredible competition and differs from the Champions League, but it’s a trophy every top team aspires to win.”

“We aim to conclude the season impressively; this would mark our fifth trophy of the season and serve as the finishing touch.”

Despite the comfortable final score, Enrique acknowledged that Inter Milan posed challenges, and PSG was fortunate to capitalize on their scoring opportunities.

“There was significant tension during the match. I can’t quite assess our performance as a masterpiece, but we started strong and my team was extraordinary,” he said.

“However, Inter exerted considerable pressure, and we were lucky with our goals. Whenever we had chances, we found the net and ended up maintaining control.”

“Our fans were incredibly supportive and showcased their passion tonight; they were our 12th player, and my team truly mirrored that enthusiasm.”

Fan Take: This news is significant for soccer enthusiasts as it showcases PSG’s growing dominance in European football, having clinched the Champions League title. Their ambition to also secure the FIFA Club World Cup could transform the landscape of club football, emphasizing the fierce competition among top teams globally.
