The Los Angeles secured a series win over the New York Yankees on Saturday night, delivering one of the most decisive defeats in Yankees’ history. Following an 8-5 victory in the first game of the 2024 World Series rematch on Friday, the dominated the second game with an 18-2 rout. According to Katie Strang, this is the most overwhelming loss the Yankees have suffered against a National League team since interleague play began in 1997.

This heavy defeat marks only the 12th instance in franchise history where the Yankees have lost by more than 16 runs and their worst since a 19-3 loss against the Boston Red Sox in July 2019. The surged ahead early, scoring four runs in the first inning and six in the second, with seven of their initial 10 runs charged to Yankees starter Will Warren, who lasted just one inning and saw his ERA jump from 4.09 to 5.19. The amassed 21 hits, including career milestones for Max Muncy, who hit his 200th and 201st home runs, and rookie Dalton, who celebrated his first career home run. The Yankees’ Pablo Reyes managed to prevent a shutout by hitting a homer in the eighth inning, but the finished strong with Enrique Hernandez pitching a scoreless ninth.

Landon Knack delivered a solid start for the , while Tommy Edman notched four hits. Despite the defeat, Yankees’ Aaron Judge hit two homers to reach 21 homers for the season, joining Shohei Ohtani and Cal Raleigh among players with 20-plus home runs in 2025. The Yankees hold a 5.5-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East and maintain the best run differential in baseball at +94, narrowly edged by the Chicago Cubs. The , with a 36-22 record, lead the National League West by 2.5 games over the San Diego Padres. The series concludes Sunday night at Stadium.
