Peter Hickman Speaks Out Following “140 mph Slap” Incident on Man’s Island

Peter Hickman has spoken out for the first time since his serious crash during the Isle of Man TT race. He returned to social media on Sunday morning following the accident on Friday, where he fell at Kerrowmoar and was urgently airlifted to Noble’s Hospital with injuries to his chest, back, shoulders, and face. Photos Hickman shared online showed the extent of the facial injuries he sustained.

In his message, Hickman said, “We went down a little on Friday night, and there was nothing like a 140-mile slap against the Manx countryside. We were bruised and hurt, but we are back.” He also expressed deep gratitude to the sponsors—Suomy Helmets, Weise Motorcycle Clothing, Five Advanced Gloves, and Frey Daytona—and extended thanks to the dedicated IOM TT Marshals, the TT Medical Team, and Noble Hospital staff for their support.

Having already won 14 races, Hickman will no longer participate in the remainder of this year’s TT following the crash. He had been considered one of the top contenders to win the main race, alongside competitors Michael Dunlop and Davie Todd. Just hours before the accident, Hickman posted the second-fastest time in the Superbike qualifying round.

This season, Hickman joined the New Look team alongside Davie Todd, with whom he also helped establish the 8ten race to support their road racing endeavors. While Todd continues competing at this year’s TT, his focus is now firmly on supporting Hickman’s recovery.

Fan Take: This update is crucial for racing fans as it highlights the risks riders face during the Isle of Man TT, a race known for its intensity and danger. Hickman’s absence will undoubtedly shake up the competition, potentially opening doors for new champions and reshaping the future dynamics of the sport.
