Of course, it was always going to be difficult for Tottenham Hotspur to replace 2026 Ballon d’Or winner Harry Kane, who scored 73 goals for Bayern Munich and England during the evaluation period.
However, the centre-forwards Spurs have signed since Kane joined Bayern in 2023 have largely flopped, and their lack of a reliable goalscorer has arguably been one of the key reasons behind finishing 17th in the Premier League for the last two years on the bounce.
Tottenham striker signings since Harry Kane left | Appearances | Goals |
Alejo Veliz | 8 | 1 |
Dominic Solanke | 75 | 24 |
Mathys Tel | 66 | 8 |
Randal Kolo Muani | 41 | 5 |
Omar Marmoush | 8 | 1 |
In fact, two of the aforementioned strikers have already left the club, with Spurs choosing not to sign Kolo Muani on a permanent basis, while Veliz has signed for Brazilian side Bahia.
Moreover, Tel has predominantly been utilised as a left-winger by Roberto De Zerbi this season, whereas Richarlison has been frozen out, with the Brazilian making just one appearance in all competitions since the start of the campaign.
With that in mind, De Zerbi may need to bring in at least one new centre-forward in January or the summer transfer window, and the Lilywhites have now entered contention to bring in a Champions League star.
Tottenham join the race to sign Nicolo Tresoldi
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham have now entered the race to sign Club Brugge star Nicolo Tresoldi, but there could be fierce competition from rival Premier League clubs, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle United also emerging as potential suitors.
In addition, a deal could be relatively expensive, with Brugge set to hold out for a club-record fee of €40m (£33m), and they have little interest in selling the 22-year-old, given the level of his performances this season.
The German has looked particularly impressive in the Champions League, and he was singled out for high praise by journalist Michael Oti Adjei after bagging a hat-trick against Inter Milan earlier this month.
The Cagliari-born marksman has been in fine form domestically too, amassing 12 goals in 14 matches across all competitions, with seven of those coming in the Belgian Pro League, which leaves him joint-first in the goalscoring charts.
Although De Zerbi will be hoping the 2-0 win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge is a turning point, the Italian has lacked a consistent goalscorer this season, with Solanke getting on the scoresheet just once in eight Premier League outings.
If the Englishman continues to struggle, Tottenham should look to bring in a striker during the January transfer window, and Tresoldi has proven he is ready to test himself in one of Europe’s top leagues.
