Manchester United has confirmed the signing of forward Matheus Cunha from Wolves, pending visa approval and registration, as announced on Sunday.

According to previous reports from ESPN, United triggered a £62.5 million ($83.5 million) release clause in the Brazilian international’s contract with Molineux. A source indicated that he has signed a five-year deal with an option for an additional year.

United opted to pay the transfer fee upfront over two years after initially seeking to structure the payment over four or five years, as per an ESPN insider.

Cunha had an impressive season with Wolves, netting 17 goals and providing six assists across all competitions.

The acquisition of Cunha follows a busy summer for United, under the guidance of coach Ruben Amorim, who is looking to revamp the squad.

However, there may be departures from Old Trafford as well.

ESPN has reported that United is looking to sell Antony this summer, with winger Alejandro Garnacho also potentially on the move.

In another development, Al Giral, a member of Saudi Arabia’s professional league, is in talks with Bruno Fernandes regarding a contract aimed at drawing in marquee signings prior to the Club World Cup.

This report includes information from Rob Dawson at ESPN.

Fan Take: This signing is significant for Manchester United, as it adds depth to their attacking options and signals ambitious plans for the upcoming season. For fans, it represents a potential shift in the club’s fortunes as they seek to re-establish their prominence in domestic and European football.
