Just two days following her record-breaking triumph in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint, Ways and Means is set to embark on a new chapter with Boyd Racing after being sold for $5 million at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale. The 5-year-old filly by Practical Joke secured her eighth victory out of 14 starts with that win, boosting her career earnings to $2,157,500. Her impressive 6 1/4 length lead in the Filly & Mare Sprint not only marked the largest winning margin at this year’s Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland but also matched the historic record set by 2020 champion Gamine.
Saturday’s win marked Ways and Means’ sixth graded stakes victory, adding to an exceptional 2026 campaign that includes triumphs in the Grade 1 Ballerina Stakes and the Grade 2 Bed o’ Roses Stakes—a race she also won in 2025. During her 3-year-old season, she claimed wins in the Grade 1 Test Stakes and the Grade 2 Gallant Bloom Stakes. Bred by Klaravich Stables and trained by Chad Brown, Ways and Means was offered at Fasig-Tipton by Elite, agent. She hails from the stakes-winning mare Strong Incentive, a daughter of Warrior’s Reward, who has produced four winners including Grade 1 victor Surge Capacity and Grade 3 winner Highly Motivated.
Fan Take: This sale highlights the growing commercial appeal of top-tier racehorses like Ways and Means, signaling strong investor confidence in the future of the sport. For racing enthusiasts, it’s exciting to see such talented horses transitioning into new hands where their racing legacy and potential breeding value can continue to flourish.
