Philadelphia – When it comes to video games, having a cover athlete is a big deal. This year, Saquon Barkley and his iconic reverse hurdle move, representing the Philadelphia Eagles, have been featured on the cover of Madden NFL 26, as announced by EA Sports on Monday.

In addition to the cover honor, Barkley was named to the first Madden 99 Club for the Eagles’ offensive players.

Barkley shared, “Being on the Madden NFL 26 cover and joining the Madden 99 Club is a huge honor. We appreciate the support from our teammates, coaches, and Eagles fans. We’re eager to get back on the field and give Madden players some epic highlights to enjoy.”

Barkley, who received the Associated Press Attack Player of the Year award, has enjoyed one of the most outstanding running back seasons in NFL history. He set new single-season rushing records by accumulating 2,504 yards during the regular and postseason.

He had a chance to surpass Eric Dickerson’s regular-season rushing record but was rested by the Eagles in the finale against the New York Giants to keep him fresh for the playoffs. Barkley still managed 101 yards in that game.

The decision to rest him paid off as Barkley rushed for 499 yards and scored five touchdowns throughout the playoffs, playing a vital role in Philadelphia securing their second Lombardi Trophy.

While Barkley’s season was packed with highlight-worthy moments, his innovative reverse hurdle move against the Jacksonville Jaguars in early November stands out the most.

During a third-and-six situation early in the second quarter, Barkley caught a pass from Jaylen Hearts, broke a tackle, executed a spin move to evade Devin Lloyd, and then performed a backward hurdle over cornerback Jalian Jones, leaving defenders stunned.

Evan Dexter, EA Sports’ Vice President of Franchise Strategy and Marketing for Madden NFL, said, “Saquon’s reverse hurdle was once considered a move only seen in video games. Now, it showcases the athleticism and creativity of one of football’s most inspiring players. Madden NFL 26 delivers the most authentic NFL experience yet, enabling gamers to witness more unreal moments throughout the season.”

Barkley’s top-notch ratings in spin moves, jukes, agility, and change of direction in Madden NFL 26 are no surprise. He is the first Eagles player in 20 years to join the Madden 99 Club, following in the footsteps of Safety Brian Dawkins (Madden 04) and kicker David Akers (Madden 06).

Fan Take: This recognition of Saquon Barkley highlights his exceptional talent and sets a new standard for athleticism in the NFL. For fans, it means more thrilling gameplay moments and signals a growing blend of athletic creativity between real-life football and the gaming world.
