Although David Moyes was not entirely satisfied with Everton’s showing against Coventry City, he was pleased with their resilience in securing a 3-1 victory.
Thierno Barry scored twice and assisted Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, helping the Toffees bounce back after falling behind to Yann Gboho’s goal at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
With this win, Everton has achieved three consecutive victories across all competitions, including their last two in the Premier League, just ahead of the international break.
This marked only the third time Everton overcame a second-half deficit of 1-0 in a Premier League game to win by more than one goal, joining previous successes against West Ham in November 2008 and Burnley in September 2021.
The match was significant for Moyes, as it marked his 592nd game in charge across two terms, tying him for the most games managed in Everton’s history alongside Harry Catterick, a two-time First Division title winner.
Despite the win, Moyes noted there were areas for improvement, mentioning his team only managed one more shot than Coventry (15 to 14) and conceded three major scoring opportunities.
“I wasn’t entirely convinced it was a good performance,” Moyes said on BBC Match of the Day. “Coventry made it quite challenging for us, highlighting their prior strong results against teams like Nottingham Forest and Sunderland.”
“They had a few decisions that could have gone their way, but ultimately, we scored the goals we needed. In the Premier League, securing victories is always vital because they are incredibly hard to come by.”

Moyes was thrilled to see Barry maintain his impressive form, as the French player’s two goals brought his tally to 10 in just 13 matches this season.
This already surpasses his total of eight goals from 41 appearances last season, with only Manchester City’s Erling Haaland scoring more in the Premier League this season, at 14 goals.
“Even though we conceded a poor goal, the way we responded was commendable. It was crucial for Thierno Barry to score again, and those goals were significant for us,” Moyes stated.
“We’ve always had faith in him, and we hope he continues to find the net. He has missed some opportunities, but tonight he delivered when it mattered, becoming a valuable asset for our team with 10 goals so far.”
Everton’s next match after the international break will be away against Brentford on November 23, followed by a home clash with Liverpool in the Merseyside derby six days later.
