Stronach Stables’ Runaway Again stormed down the stretch to overtake early leader English Actor and pull away, winning the $175,000 Autumn Stakes (G3) by 2¾ lengths Saturday at Woodbine Racetrack. William T finished third, 1½ lengths behind, with Wicked Django a length further back in fourth, while Swift Delivery and War Court completed the six-horse field in fifth and sixth place.
The 4-year-old Hard Spun gelding, trained by Sid Attard and ridden by Ryan Munger, covered the 1 1/8 miles on Woodbine’s all-weather track in 1:50.37. As the even-money favorite, he paid $4 on a $2 win wager. Running from the inside post, Runaway Again stayed near the rear as English Actor led through fractions of :24.58, :49.61, and 1:13.64 for the first six furlongs. Entering the stretch, Runaway Again made a powerful move on the outside, took command at the eighth pole, and steadily pulled away.
“He’s a horse who thrives when everyone around him knows exactly what he needs—from Sid to the groom to the gate crew—especially the gate crew,” said Munger, who previously piloted Runaway Again to a half-length victory in the 2025 Prince of Wales Stakes at Fort Erie. “I just needed to clear a path at the top of the stretch, and he ran them down like a true favorite. This win was well earned.”
Bred in Ontario by Adena Springs, Runaway Again is out of Golden Venus, a Storm Cat mare. He now has a career record of 5 wins, 1 second, and 2 thirds from 10 starts, with earnings of $472,060. This victory marked his second graded stakes triumph, following a win in the Dominion Day Stakes (G3) on June 27 at Woodbine.
