Can Shai Gilgeous-Alexander become the seventh player to win an MVP, scoring title and final MVP in the same season?

Last week, the Oklahoma City Thunder punched tickets to the NBA Finals with a 124-94 victory vs. the Timberwolves. They were the number one seed in the West Playoffs, going 68-14 during the regular season.

The 2024-25 season was an extraordinary year for OKC as a team, and an exceptional year for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as an individual. He was named the 2024-25 NBA MVP and won the scoring title of this past season. If SGA won the Finals MVP in 2025, he could have joined the players of the elite group. Only Kareem Abdul Jabber, Michael Jordan (4x) and Shaquille O’Neal were the only players to score the title and Final MVP in the same season.

Can SGA close out his historic season by earning the MVP in the final?

The 2024-25 season was an incredible individual year for PG Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. He played 76 of OKC’s 82 games and started. During the third consecutive season, SGA averaged over 30 points per game. In 76 this season, the 2024-25 MVP averaged 32.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 1.7 steals per 1.7 games. In addition to winning MVP this season, SGA’s 32.7 points per game was the best in the league.

It gave him a 2024-25 scoring title. The age of 26 is 2/3 for a time to spend the astronomically historic season. He has already won the league MVP and has scored a scoring title. SGA has the chance to become the fourth player to win an MVP, scoring title and final MVP in the same season. The first players to achieve this feat were the Bucks and Kareem Abduljabbar in 1971.

Michael Jordan has achieved this four times in his legendary career. 1991, 1992, 1996, and 1998. It was 2000 Lakers’ Shaquille O’Neill who won all three in the same season. The SGA had a serious impact on OKC in the postseason. He averaged 31.4 points per game in the Western Conference Finals. Can Gilgeous-Alexander end his historic season by winning the MVP in the final? The Thunder is a heavy favorite to win the NBA Finals.
