US Women’s Soccer Team Secures 4-0 Victory Over Jamaica

Ally Sentnor and Lynn Biyendolo each netted two goals, leading the US Women’s National Team to a dominant 4-0 win against Jamaica on Tuesday evening. Sentnor opened the scoring in the 19th minute and celebrated by forming a heart shape with her hands, showcasing her joy after a second goal just ten minutes later.

The 21-year-old, who was recently named the US Football Young Player of the Year, now has four international goals to her name and expressed praise for her teammates, saying, "They can move the ball effortlessly. I’m still striving to improve for them."

Biyendolo added her first goal just three minutes after joining the game, scoring in the 60th minute, and then clinched her second in the 88th from a cross sent in by Avery Patterson. With these goals, Biyendolo has now accumulated an impressive total of 24 in her career.

Phallon Tullis-Joyce, who is stepping into the role of primary goalkeeper following Alyssa Naeher’s retirement last year, marked her second consecutive shutout and her third clean sheet overall.

The Jamaican team, which has yet to defeat the US, featured two sibling sets, Alison and Chantel Swaby, and Carissa and Amelia Van Zanten. The US women had previously secured a 3-0 win over China on Saturday in St. Paul, Minnesota, after Jamaica stepped in to replace China due to earlier pullouts.

Before the match, the US honored Becky Sauerbrunn, who retired from professional soccer late last year. She is celebrated for a 16-year international career, during which she became a two-time Women’s World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist. Fans honored her with a standing ovation and chants during the pre-match ceremony, reflecting her legacy in the sport.

Sauerbrunn recently announced she is expecting her first child with partner Zola Short and will be taking on a new role as a TV commentator for future matches. The US team is set to face Ireland for two upcoming games in Commerce City, Colorado, on June 26 and in Cincinnati on June 29, followed by a match against Canada in Washington, DC, on July 6.
