Connor Zilisch is emerging as one of NASCAR’s most promising young talents. At just 18 years old, he’s gaining valuable experience with Trackhouse Racing by competing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship. Sponsored by Red Bull, Zilisch made his Cup Series debut at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), driving the No. 87 Chevrolet. He qualified impressively in 14th position but was involved in a mid-race crash with teammate Daniel Suarez, which ended his race early, finishing 37th after completing 49 out of 95 laps.

Zilisch made his oval track debut at NASCAR’s longest race, the Coca-Cola 600, where he started 33rd and finished 23rd, while teammate Ross Chastain won the race. Trackhouse Racing has now confirmed that Zilisch will participate in two additional Cup races this year, including the event at Atlanta (recently renamed EchoPark Speedway) on June 28th and the August 10th race at Watkins Glen, where he previously secured his first Xfinity victory. Zilisch expressed excitement about these opportunities and gratitude to Red Bull and Trackhouse Racing for their support.

Currently ranked fifth in the NASCAR Xfinity Series regular season, Zilisch has faced challenges, including a back injury from a crash while leading at Talladega, causing him to miss the Texas Xfinity race. Despite this, he has clinched a playoff spot thanks to his earlier win at COTA and has shown strong form with consecutive second-place finishes at Charlotte and Nashville.

Fan Take: Connor Zilisch’s progression into the NASCAR Cup Series is a thrilling development for fans eager to see fresh talent rising through the ranks. His blend of skill, resilience, and promising performances signals an exciting future and adds depth to NASCAR’s competitive landscape, potentially shaping the next generation of racing stars.
