  • The blades are scrunching the future of Chris Wilder

  • Sheffield United to Emil Reese

According to Sky Sports, Sheffield United is currently keen to sign a “good” forward who will soon become free agent.

The blades are scrunching the future of Chris Wilder

Before the ball was kicked in the 2024/25 campaign, the blade was expected to be one of three aspects to win promotion to the Premier League despite receiving a point deduction. The Yorkshire side lived to their expectations to a degree, but the brutal reality is considered the season as a failure.

Kiefer Moore’s days at Sheffield United could be counted after his playoff final howler.

A last-minute loss to Sunderland in the playoff final means that the Blade remains in the championship, but also means that Chris Wilder is being questioned. Football Insider reported late last week that it would decide whether United will plunder Wilder next week.

The club chief is said to be evaluating his position as manager, and the club’s new owner, the US-based consortium Coh Sports, is considering allowing Wilder’s vacation until the summer of 2028 despite current deals.

Sheffield United to Emil Reese

Despite Wilder’s future at Bramall Lane in the air, the club is still actively considering ways to improve their team next season. According to Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph, Sheffield United is interested in signing a free transfer to Preston North End striker Emil Riis Jakobsen.

The 26-year-old is nearing the end of his contract at Deepdale, and it looks as if he could move this summer. Frank Lampard’s Coventry City is also keen on Dane, so Blade isn’t the only team chasing ahead. Joseph reports that Riis Jakobsen wants to join the team with ambition to advance to the Premier League.

Rhys Jacobsen, once known as “excellent” by Preston boss Ryan Lowe, has been in Deepdale since October 2020. Meanwhile, the forward was a regular contributor in front of the goal, scoring 12 goals in 45 championship games last season.

That tally has been hit once since moving to England, and that was the 2021/22 season when he scored 16 goals. The blade already has Kiefer Moore, Lean Brewster, Tyree Campbell and Tom Cannon on the top, so there’s plenty of competition for a starting spot.

And the uncertainty about Wilder’s future is because Riis Jakobsen wants some guarantees about play time before deciding where to play next.
