Panthers Poised to Clinch Series Split in Edmonton as They Head Back to South Florida for Game 2

The opening game of the 2025 Stanley Cup Final delivered an exciting showdown as the Edmonton Oilers staged a thrilling comeback to defeat the Florida Panthers. Florida initially surged ahead with a two-goal lead early in the second period, but Edmonton fought back, clinching the win in overtime during the third period, taking an early lead in the best-of-seven series.

The Panthers aimed to achieve their goals before the series fully kicked off and returned to South Florida with the series tied. Although Florida didn’t perform at their best in Edmonton, they found some solace in leading for a significant portion of Game 1 and were just one shot away from securing their first win.

Florida is clearly searching for ways to boost their offensive consistency and increase puck presence. Despite registering 32 shots in Game 1, only eight came during the third period and overtime, a time when their offense notably faltered after losing their lead early in the second period. How the Panthers respond moving forward will be critical.

In terms of lineup updates, forward AJ Greer remains day-to-day due to injuries but skated on Thursday and could return for Game 2. Head coach Paul Maurice will monitor Greer’s status after the morning skate on Friday at Rogers Place.

Here are the Panthers’ projected lines and pairings for Game 2 in Edmonton:
– Evan Rodriguez – Sasha Barkov – Sam Reinhart
– Carter Verhaeghe – Sam Bennett – Matthew Tkachuk
– Eetu Luostarinen – Anton Lundell – Brad Marchand
– AJ Greer – Tomas Nosek – Jonah Gadjovich
– Gus Farsling – Aaron Ekblad
– Nico Miccola – Seth Jones
– Nate Schmidt – Dmitry Kulikov
