As summer approaches and the usual major sports diminish to mainly MLB and WNBA games, a couple of exciting team sport finals are stepping into the spotlight. The Stanley Cup Final kicked off Wednesday with a thrilling rematch between the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers. The Oilers, riding their early success, are set to host Game 2 on Friday at 8pm ET at Rogers Place. The Oilers are slightly favored with odds at -115, while the Panthers are offered at -105.

In basketball, the NBA Finals featured a stunning Game 1 where the Indiana Pacers overcame a double-digit deficit to edge out the Oklahoma City Thunder 111-110, delivering an instant classic. Below is a preview of key games to watch on Friday, June 6th.

NHL Stanley Cup Final Game 2: Oilers vs. Panthers
In Game 1, Leon Draisaitl scored twice, including the game-winner with just 31 seconds left, securing a 4-3 comeback win for Edmonton after trailing by two goals. Last year, Edmonton led the series 3-0 before the Panthers staged a historic rally to claim the title 4-3. Florida will look to even the series this Friday. According to Sportsline’s simulation model, the Panthers have around a 53% chance to win the series over 10,000 simulated games.

MLB Highlight: Yankees vs. Red Sox, 7:05pm (MLB Network)
Walker Buehler, now pitching for the Red Sox after helping the Dodgers beat the Yankees in the World Series, has struggled recently with losses in his last two starts. The Yankees, winners of eight of their last 11 home games, aim to continue their strong run behind Will Warren, despite his tough last outing where he allowed seven runs.

WNBA Highlight: Dream vs. Sun, 7:30pm (Aeon)
WNBA analyst Max Meyer praises first-year Atlanta Dream coach Karl Smesko for his impressive strategy, particularly highlighting point guard Jordan Canada as a key factor in balancing and deepening the team’s offense.

Looking Ahead: NBA Finals Game 2 – Pacers vs. Thunder (Sunday, 8pm)
Sportsline’s model forecasts a strong rebound by the Thunder in Game 2, predicting they will cover the spread at least 65% of the time. Early betting favors the Pacers, but the model suggests a 120-102 Thunder win, flipping the results from Game 1.

Fan Take: This intense Stanley Cup Final rematch is a must-watch for hockey fans, showcasing the drama and unpredictability that defines the sport. The Panthers’ chance for redemption following last year’s comeback loss adds an emotional layer, promising that this series could become an instant classic and greatly boost hockey’s summer viewership.
