Veteran Guards’ 34-Point Outburst Sends a Bold Message from the WNBA

The WNBA originally shared an update from Athlon Sports highlighting veteran guard Marina Mabury’s standout 34-point performance. On Friday, Mabury led the Connecticut Sun to their second win of the 2025 WNBA season, an 84-76 victory over the Atlanta Dream, snapping the Dream’s four-game winning streak. Mabury was the star of the game, delivering an impressive 34 points.

However, on Sunday, the Sun suffered a heavy 100-52 loss to the defending champions, the New York Liberty, marking the second-largest winning margin in WNBA history. Mabury struggled in this game, scoring only eight points on 2-of-11 shooting and recording her worst plus/minus rating of the season.

Fortunately for the Sun, Mabury rebounded from her poor performance against the Liberty. She led Connecticut with 34 points, four rebounds, and four assists while shooting 59.1%, helping the team secure their first victory in the WNBA Commissioners Cup as well as their first home win. The league confirmed that Mabury’s 34-point game was the first 30-point performance of the WNBA season.

Before facing the Dream, Mabury averaged 15 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. Her explosive showing against Atlanta is expected to boost her season stats. Connecticut will continue their season on Sunday against the Washington Mystics.

Fan Take: Marina Mabury’s electrifying performance proves she remains a dominant force in the league, giving Connecticut a much-needed spark. This kind of star power is crucial for the WNBA as it builds momentum and excitement ahead of the rest of the season, signaling big things for the sport’s growth.
