Zack Edey, the center for the Memphis Grizzlies, has once again injured his left ankle, prompting the team to announce on Saturday that surgery will be necessary. Standing 7-foot-3, Edey sustained the injury while training this week, with imaging showing significant ligament looseness that requires surgical intervention to examine his ankles further.

Edey, a two-time National Player of the Year at Purdue, missed 12 games earlier this season due to a left ankle sprain. He returned to play in 66 games, starting 55 of them, and averaged 9.2 points along with 8.3 rebounds, leading all rookies. The Grizzlies stated a preliminary recovery timeline will be available after surgery, and Edey is expected to make a full recovery.

Report by Associated Press.

Fan Take: This setback is tough for both Zack Edey and Memphis Grizzlies fans, as the promising young center had shown great potential this season. His recovery and return to form will be crucial not only for the Grizzlies’ success but also for the excitement and growth of the sport, especially with such a dominant rookie voice in the league.
