Former Dallas Cowboys defensive back Kelvin Joseph has been arrested in connection with a fatal accident that claimed the life of a 27-year-old woman, according to Richardson, Texas police. Joseph faces charges including driving while intoxicated, misdemeanors related to personal injury or death, and a second felony charge. Authorities said Joseph admitted to being involved in the crash early Saturday morning and noted signs of substance addiction during their investigation. Joseph’s BMW collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the fatality. The investigation is ongoing.

Joseph, who previously avoided legal trouble in 2022 despite associating with a suspect in a Dallas shooting, has faced scrutiny regarding his off-field behavior. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones emphasized the importance of players maintaining good character, saying Joseph must clean up his image and perform both on and off the field.

Drafted by the Cowboys in the second round in 2021, Joseph was traded to the Miami Dolphins after two seasons and later played for the Kansas City Chiefs, among other teams. As a rookie, he appeared in 10 games with 16 tackles and a fumble recovery, and played in all 16 games in his second year with similar stats. Recently, Joseph attempted a career rejuvenation by signing with the UFL’s DC Defenders.

Fan Take: This troubling news highlights the ongoing challenges NFL players face off the field and the serious consequences that can arise. For fans, it serves as a reminder that player conduct profoundly impacts not only the sport’s image but also the lives of those involved, reinforcing the need for stronger support systems and accountability in the league.
