The WNBA announced a major milestone for Nneka Ogwumike on Saturday.

Friday night’s game at the United Center saw the Chicago Sky face off against the Indiana Fever in their second encounter of the season. The Fever made a strong impression by defeating the Sky once again, improving to 2-0 in the season series.

Meanwhile, another exciting matchup took place between the Seattle Storm and Phoenix Mercury, following a key showdown involving the Fever and Sky. In the Storm vs. Mercury game, history was made as former WNBA MVP Nneka Ogwumike reached a significant career achievement.

The league shared on social media that Ogwumike climbed to eighth place on the WNBA’s all-time steals list with a total of 628. This milestone further cements Ogwumike’s legacy as she continues to make history. The 6-foot-2 forward, now 34, boasts nine All-Star selections, seven All-Defensive Team honors, seven All-WNBA forward nods, and a WNBA championship to her name.

Ogwumike has had a strong start to this season, averaging 16.5 points on 50% shooting, 9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per game heading into Saturday’s contest against the Mercury.

The Seattle Storm, aiming for a playoff spot, currently hold a 4-4 record but have yet to solidify themselves as top contenders for this year’s championship. If Ogwumike can maintain her high level of play, the Storm could become a serious threat.

Her ability to elevate her team’s performance underscores the increasing competitiveness and talent in the league, signaling a bright future for women’s professional basketball.
