The Stanley Cup Final Heads to South Florida with the Panthers in the Spotlight

Starting with the 2026 Stanley Cup Finals, the spotlight has shifted to South Florida. The Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers have delivered exceptional performances so far, with both teams emerging victorious in overtime battles. Edmonton secured a thrilling 4-3 comeback win in Game 1, and Florida quickly answered with a 5-4 double overtime triumph two nights later.

Having faced off in last June’s series—regarded as one of the best in recent memory—it’s no surprise to see these two teams continuing to push the limits this year. Reviewing the first two games, Florida displayed a more confident and effective playing style in Game 2 compared to Game 1. Both squads are fiercely competing to dominate and impose their strategies, making this matchup one of the toughest challenges they’ve encountered all season.

Regarding team lineups, Florida’s only uncertain spot is whether AJ Greer will return to the fourth line or if Jesper Boqvist will keep his place. In the double overtime of Game 2, Boqvist played only 8 minutes and 41 seconds—the shortest ice time among Panthers players—while linemate Jonah Gadjovich also had limited time at 8 minutes and 53 seconds. It’s expected that Greer’s return will boost confidence and lead to more frequent play.

Here’s the projected Panthers lineup and pairings for Game 3 against Edmonton:

  • Evan Rodrigues – Sasha Barkov – Sam Reinhart
  • Carter Verhaeghe – Sam Bennett – Matthew Tkachuk
  • Eetu Luostarinen – Anton Lundell – Brad Marchand
  • AJ Greer – Tomas Nosek – Jonah Gadjovich

Defense pairings:

  • Gus Forsling – Aaron Ekblad
  • Nico Hischier – Seth Jones
  • Nate Schmidt – Dmitry Kulikov

Fan Take: This rivalry between the Panthers and Oilers is electrifying hockey enthusiasts by showcasing skill, resilience, and high-stakes competition. What unfolds in these series not only captivates fans but also sets a thrilling precedent for the future excitement and intensity of the Stanley Cup Finals.
