The Florida Panthers delivered their strongest performance of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday night in Sunrise, Florida. The Panthers seized an early advantage and dominated the Edmonton Oilers with a 6-1 victory in Game 3, gaining a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Edmonton struggled throughout the night, and as the game slipped away from them, frustration boiled over into questionable hits and multiple fights, especially in the third period when nearly all non-goalie players on the ice were involved in altercations. This intense physicality marks a stark contrast to the more disciplined games played in Edmonton during the first two matches.

The first period featured a flurry of penalties, with eight minor calls and only one power-play goal scored. By the end of the night, officials had assessed a total of 140 minutes in penalties. Edmonton capitalized on just one of six power plays, while Florida made the most of 11 opportunities, scoring three power-play goals. Despite the penalty barrage, Panthers head coach Paul Maurice downplayed their significance, pointing to moments from past games where penalties did not dictate the outcome.

Fighting is a rarity in the Stanley Cup Final, making the multiple brawls in the third period of Game 3 particularly noteworthy. The Oilers visibly lost their composure, but even amid the chaos, the camaraderie and loyalty among teammates on both squads stood out. Maurice highlighted the deep passion and resilience both teams have exhibited throughout the season.

Aaron Ekblad shone brightly for the Panthers after a shaky start in the series. While Ekblad and his defensive partner struggled in Game 1, Ekblad rebounded impressively by Game 3 with a goal, three shots on net, five hits, and a plus-one rating. Maurice praised Ekblad’s focused, veteran-level play, saying he displayed strong awareness and energy, helping solidify Florida’s defense.
