Notable Absences from the USMNT Gold Cup Roster

According to Fox Sports, star player Christian Pulisic will not participate in this summer’s tournament after struggling through two challenging seasons at AC Milan. Additionally, Weston McKennie and Tim Weah are unavailable because Juventus is engaged in the FIFA Club World Cup, while Gio Reyna’s Borussia Dortmund has similar commitments.

Regarding Pulisic’s absence, U.S. Soccer’s sporting director Matt Crocker mentioned, “Christian’s team suggested a break due to the substantial games he has played at both club and international levels.” He emphasized the importance of rest to ensure Pulisic is prepared for the coming season.

Pochettino later reiterated the focus on the upcoming World Cup, stating, “We decided what’s best for him and the national team is a collective choice.” Other notable players missing include Antony "Jedi" Robinson, who is dealing with injuries, and Yunus Musa, who withdrew for personal reasons. Joe Scally, Josh Sargent, and Tanner Tessmann, who played in previous matches, have also been cut from the squad ahead of the final submission to Concacaf on June 4, with the Gold Cup kicking off on June 14. The U.S. begins group play against Trinidad and Tobago on June 15.
