Antonio Conte has been successful in almost every club he managed, but he was disappointed in Tottenham. The Italian who led Napoli to the Serie A title last season failed to win the trophy in North London.

According to Sky Sports Italia (via Football Italia), Conte is opening his spell to take charge of Tottenham. He revealed that differences in ambitions were involved in two political parties that split in 2023.

“It was certainly a difficult year. I arrived at Tottenham in November and the team came in ninth in the table. In my first year, I hit Arsenal into a Champions League spot. For Tottenham, qualifying for the Champions League is roughly the same as winning a Premier League title.

“I remember there was a celebration in the dressing room at the end of my game with Norwich. I called the staff and said I couldn’t get used to this type of celebration. So you shouldn’t celebrate Champions League qualifiers as if it were a Premier League title.

“We were used to celebrating very different things.”

Conte also revealed that the deaths of those nearby also affected him.

“I signed a contract for a year and a half to see what I was in, and everything happened that year. Bentron died of leukemia, which took him away in 15 days.

“At the same time, Gianluca Viali passed away. I met him in a restaurant with my wife a month ago. He seemed calm, but there was also a sense that something was wrong.

Conte, who is considering signing many Premier League players this summer, has moved on from this episode, but a future return to Britain may not be a problem.
