Manchester United have agreed to a new deal with backup goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

The experienced goalkeeper will continue at Manchester United until the summer of 2026. According to Fabrizio Romano, the decision was approved by Manchester United manager Reuben Amorim and his coaching staff.

He is a useful member of the Manchester United team behind the scenes, and extending his contract by another year could prove to be a wise decision. He was expected to leave the club forever this summer.

Tom Heaton may be happy to continue

The 39-year-old may be pleased with the decision. He went through the ranks of Manchester United before leaving the club for regular game time. He returned to Old Trafford in July 2021 and has since been a useful member of the first team team.

It will be interesting to see if Manchester United have decided to invest in quality goalkeepers this summer. They have been linking with goalkeepers over the past few weeks. Andre Onana had a disappointing season, and his performances cost his team valuable points.

Manchester United should aim to bring in quality goalkeepers that they can start for them regularly.

Meanwhile, Heaton aims to continue supporting his team in his role as the third choice keeper. He tries to convince his manager to give him the opportunity to have a cup game. Given his quality, experience and leadership skills, he could be a valuable player for Manchester United on and off the pitch.

Manchester United need players of his quality and experience if they want to create a scary team with the ideal fusion of youth and experience.

It remains to be seen whether Manchester United will be able to properly improve their squad during the summer transfer period and bounce back hard after that disappointing season. They finished last year at the bottom half of the league table.
