Mikel Arteta’s team at Arsenal has now appeared to be quite different ahead of the 2025/2026 Opening Premier League match.

Andrea Berta changed focus.

The gunners have repeatedly linked to new defenders, wingers and strikers last week, but sports director Andrea Berta is trying to fund the recruitment drive and offload some players to cut wage bills.

Markinhos, Kieran Tierney, Salah-Eddine Oulad M’hand and Jorginho have already officially left the club, with the latter ending their contracts early so they can play with new side flaméngos at the Club World Cup.

Meanwhile, the report is beginning to suggest that Arsenal hit a stumbling block in negotiations over a new deal for Thomas Partey (catch-offside), allowing Ghanaians to chase the aforementioned name through the club’s exit door if no resolution was found.

Berta also makes some important decisions about the future of Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The former was impressed with William Saliba during Gabriel’s injury last season and played a key role in Poland at the international level.

Kiwior simply needs to decide whether he wants to continue playing the second fiddle behind Arteta’s favorite centre-back pairing, but the writing seems to be on Zinchenko’s walls.

Ukraine International has been featured in the Premier League, which was barely featured last season, and mostly off the bench, and it is widely expected that he is already playing his final game in the Arsenal shirt.

Oleksandr Zinchenko holds “positive” discussions to join Atlético Madrid

The Milan envoy reportedly held talks with Arsenal via Zinchenko last week (La Gazzetta), but is not the only elite candidate for his signature.

According to CatedOffside, the 28-year-old wanted to leave, and Zinchenko had a “positive” discussion with Atletico Madrid at the Arsenal exit. The people of North London are ready to glow green at his exit for just £13 million, with the sense that Diego Simeone’s side can move quickly into negotiations with Arsenal – they have other left-backs like Andy Robertson of Liverpool on their agenda.

Atlético, Simeone appears to strengthen the left back area, so while Atlético has Zinchenko, Robertson, Robertson, Robertson, Crystal Palace Tyrick Mitchell and Aston Villa’s Lucas Digne, La Liga’s side will move from the Arsenal diplomat defender.

Berta is keen to make some money from the £30 million fees placed on Zinchenko’s signature in 2022, but more importantly, this interest gives Arsenal the opportunity to cut wages of £150,000 from the already massive wage bill.
