As the Wildcard entered the tournament ranked 362nd in the world, the story of the 2025 French Open on the women’s side was Lois Boson, but Marion Bartoli became the first French woman to reach the semi-finals at Roland Garros.

Boisson was able to drive out the highly ranked Americans in No. 3 Jessica Pegra in the fourth round, but she was unable to replicate that performance against the top-ranked American woman on Thursday as Coco Gouf’s steam roll (6-1, 6-2) punched tickets for the French Open Finals To Alina Sabalenka.

Gouf took control from the start, not having the opportunity for the French crowd to participate, and not having the opportunity to lead countrywomen into another upset. Gouf rolled the first set and simply looked for a class above Kison. The onslaught continued in the second set as Gauff kept his foot off the gas and continued to put a constant pressure on Boishon, controlling the point and not allowing Boishon to reach his front paw.

The final point of the match was a proper example of what we saw all night as Gouff leaned against Boisson’s backhand whenever possible, pushing her into the corner and asking her to run nearby shots to score points.

Gouff appears to be very focused from the start, bringing her game plan to perfection and leaning against Boishon’s inexperience, allowing Boisson to make mistakes – 33 powerful errors are only 15 from Gauff. With that performance, Gauff reaches the finals and faces the number one in the world with Sabalenka. Sabalenka had to work hard all the way through three sets of battles against four-time French Open Champion Iga Swiatek in the semi-final match.

Gauff and Sabalenka split their career matches 5-5, both of which earned one victory in the major championship. Sabalenka beat Gouf in his final match at the Madrid Open Finals and won the recent conference in the Grand Slam at the 2024 Australia Open Semis. However, Goff won the only meeting in the majors final, beating Sabalenka in three sets at the 2023 US Open Final.

Serena Williams was the last American to lift the French Open Trophy at Roland Garos in 2015, so Gouf aims to photograph a decade-long drought for Americans at the French Open.
