Wyndham Clark says he has “deeply regrets” that damages Oakmont Rockers during the US opening

CROMWELL, Conn. (AP) – Former US Open Champion Wyndham Clark said he “deeply regrets” the damage done to a first-century locker he used at Oakmont, his second act of frustration that caused damage in this year’s majors.

Over the weekend, reports surfaced that Clark had hurt his locker. USGA has only said that when it comes to player actions, it works directly with players and managers.

Clark, who bogeyed his final hole on Friday and missed a cut with one shot at the US Open, opened the Travelers Championship on Thursday at 64. When asked to comment on the Oakmontrocker incident, Clark said:

“I made a mistake in what I deeply regret. I’m very sorry about what happened,” he said. “But I want to focus not only on myself, but also on Oakmont, for the USGA, and on the rest of the year and what’s coming out.”

Clark became prominent in 2023 with two victories, including a spot for the US Open and the Ryder Cup team. He won Pebble Beach a year later and competed in the Olympics.

However, he has only had one top-10 finish in the last nine months, falling to 27th in the world and 80th in the FedEx Cup.

At the PGA Championship, he slammed the drive to the right and threw the driver behind him, causing him to injure the tee sign. The logo was the logo of one of his corporate sponsors. Clark posted an apology on social media for the incident.

“As an expert, we are expected to remain experts even when we are frustrated, and unfortunately my feelings have made the most of me. My actions made it clear that there is something I need to tackle,” Clark said last month.

“I promise to improve the way I handle my frustration in future courses and hope that you will be able to forgive me in the future.”

Clark is 23rd in the Ryder Cup position, with six players taking the automatic spot. He has another signing event (traveler) and one major (British Open) within the tournament to improve his position at the FedEx Cup. Only the top 70 will make the postseason.

“I’m still trying to try and build a team for the Ryder Cup. I’m still looking for the FedEx Cup,” Clark said. “So I’m starting to move on and focus on those things.”
