American McCartney Kessler won his third career title on Sunday, beating Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska 6-4, 7-5 to defeat the Nottingham Open Final.

Kessler, who recorded his first main draw tour level victory in Grass at Queens earlier this month, dominated the match from the start, sealing the victory in an hour and 34 minutes.

“I’m very excited to have another title. I’ve reached another final, a great week of tennis for me,” Kessler said. “I want to start by celebrating Dayana on a good week. She’s a really tough competitor. We played three competitive matches, so happy a good week.”

The 25-year-old American surpassed the serve via Yastremska in the first set, earning 17 of his 25 service points compared to 19 Ukrainians in 35 First Serves.

The second set was 3-3, with Kessler contesting his victory by fighting a lively challenge from Yasternska.

Yasutermska, the first Ukrainian to reach the WTA Tour final in Grass for the first time in 17 years, was playing her second final, but was unable to win her first WTA title since 2019.
