Poland’s Hubert Halkacz was forced to withdraw from Wimbledon after failing to recover from surgery, the former World No. 6 said on Friday.

Hurkacz has not played since withdrawing from Libema Open earlier this month due to a lower back injury. The fifth seed of the tournament was forced to get two medical timeouts in the first round victory before he retreated.

Hurkacz also underwent meniscus surgery on his right knee after retiring from his second match at Wimbledon last year. He was the seventh species.

“Together with my team, I have decided to withdraw from Wimbledon this year,” Harukachi said in a statement.

“My body responded during preparation – synovial stimulation – this is part of my recovery process from surgery. It requires rest and treatment, and I need to listen.”

The Wimbledon draw was early Friday. Hurkacz was to play Briton Billy Harris in the first round of the Grass Court Grand Slam, which begins Monday.
