United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) Manager Mauricio Pochettino has dismissed rumors about interviewing for the coaching position at Premier League club Brentford, according to Fox Sports.

Pochettino addressed the speculation on Saturday in response to reports from Ireland that connected him to Brentford ahead of the Gold Cup quarterfinal against Costa Rica. He currently manages the USMNT after taking over from Gregg Berhalter in September 2024, with a contract extending until the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup.

Brentford was the last Premier League team to finalize their coaching choices, appointing Keith Andrews to replace Thomas Frank.

“The club didn’t reach out to me,” Pochettino stated. “I’ve never had any discussions with them.”

While this doesn’t necessarily mean he wasn’t considered for the role, his current contract requires the club to coordinate with U.S. soccer authorities before initiating any dialogue. With the World Cup on the horizon, distractions are unwelcome as Pochettino focuses on maximizing his squad’s potential.

Though expectations under Pochettino have not been particularly high, he remains the best hope for the team in the upcoming World Cup. Changing coaches at this stage would be counterproductive, offering little time to implement new tactics. While winning the Gold Cup is a significant challenge with key players missing, it could create positive momentum leading into a pivotal World Cup for the national team.

Fan Take: This news is crucial for soccer enthusiasts as it underscores the stability and focus of the USMNT during a critical preparation phase for the World Cup. Pochettino’s leadership could significantly influence the team’s performance, making this a pivotal moment for U.S. soccer fans as they look ahead to the tournament.
