Pegra handles swiatek with straight sets to win a bad Homburg title

Top seed Jessica Pegra had Iga Swietek’s heavy topspin game in grass to win a 6-4, 7-5 victory on Saturday and lift the bad Homburg open title.

The Americans served the whole, giving up one breakpoint and denied their first career title with Grass just two days before the start of Wimbledon.

SwiaTek has not won a singles title since France’s Open victory in 2024.

“I know you say you can’t play with grass, but you’re very good with grass,” Pegra addressed Sweet after the match. “It was a special week.”

Pegra got a break at 3-3 in the first set, then went up 5-3.

The 31-year-old World No. 3 chased the third title in 2025, his first title since April, and landed the first set soon after when Swiatek sent a forehand.

Swiatek played a fight in the second set, bordering near the break, but was unable to carve out a breakpoint.

Pegra scored a breakpoint 5-5, converting it with a sizzling cross-court forehand.

Pegra served to seal her second career title in Grass following her victory in Berlin last year.

For Swiatek, who was crying while waiting for the trophy ceremony, it was a successful week after reaching his first career final on the surface.

“(Pegra) had a great game and (she) showed it throughout the tournament,” Swiatek said. “Hopefully we’ll have more finals together. …I feel that’s a good way, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to play here. This tournament shows me that there’s hope for me in the grass.”
