The Syracuse Mets had a strong showing at the plate on Saturday during their doubleheader against the Rochester Red Wings in Triple-A baseball. In the second game, Drew Gilbert powered Syracuse to an 8-2 win by hitting two home runs. He ended the game with a 2-for-5 performance, driving in three runs and crossing the plate three times.

At 24 years old, Gilbert has tallied six homers over 60 Triple-A games, holding a .225 batting average and a .707 OPS. His first home run came in the fifth inning—a solo shot that followed a homer from teammate Gilberto Celestino, tying the game at 2-2. Both long balls were hit with two outs.

Gilbert’s second homer arrived in the eighth inning, an extra inning due to the game being tied at seven after the standard seven innings of minor league doubleheaders. Syracuse scored eight runs in that inning, with Gilbert sealing the frame with a two-run blast to make it 10-2.

Earlier in the day’s first game, Gilbert went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and scored four runs, showcasing an impressive overall performance for the outfielder across the doubleheader.

Fan Take: This breakout day for Drew Gilbert signals the arrival of a potential future star, as he displays both power and consistency at the plate. Baseball fans should keep an eye on him because performances like this could influence the next wave of talent making its way to the majors, injecting fresh excitement into the sport.
