Spanish striker Aitana Bonmati is set to be discharged from the hospital after her recovery from viral meningitis and is expected to rejoin her team in the next few days.

She was hospitalized for “a few days” but received the go-ahead to leave on Sunday, as confirmed by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

The 27-year-old player did not participate in the team’s recent 3-1 friendly victory against Japan.

Spain is gearing up for its first European Championship match against Portugal on July 3rd.

Bonmati, who plays for Barcelona, is a two-time winner of the FIFA Women’s Player Award in 2023 and 2024. She has scored 30 goals for Spain in 78 appearances and was instrumental in securing the 2023 Women’s World Cup and last year’s Women’s National League title.

As Spain faces Belgium and Italy in Group B, they aim to add another trophy to their collection following their 2023 World Cup triumph.

Information from Reuters contributed to this report.

Fan Take: This news is significant for soccer fans as it highlights Aitana Bonmati’s remarkable resilience and talent, which are critical for Spain’s quest for further glory on the international stage. Her return could be pivotal in inspiring the team to secure another championship during this European Championship.
