$270,000 Slip Away for Bettors as Panthers Defeat Oilers in Stanley Cup Showdown

A bettor stood to win an impressive $270,000 if the Edmonton Oilers clinched the 2025 Stanley Cup, but instead, the Florida Panthers captured the championship on Tuesday night. Although the bettor didn’t hit the jackpot, he still walked away with a respectable amount.

Here’s what happened: On June 19, 2024, Drew Hirschmann placed a $13 bet on a five-leg parlay with odds around +2,082,600, which included the Freedom winning the WNBA title, the Dodgers winning the World Series, the Eagles winning the Super Bowl, the Oilers winning the Stanley Cup, and the Thunder capturing the NBA Finals. The Freedom, Dodgers, and Eagles all succeeded, but Hirschmann needed the Oilers and Thunder to win for the big prize. However, the Panthers took Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final, winning the series 4-2 by defeating the Oilers 5-1.

Fortunately for Hirschmann, he hedged his bet, ensuring that even with the Panthers’ victory, he would still walk away with something — between $75,000 and $90,000. That’s a great return for just a $13 wager.

Fan Take: This story highlights the thrilling unpredictability of sports and the excitement it brings to fans and bettors alike. For hockey enthusiasts, it’s a reminder that anything can happen in the Stanley Cup playoffs, keeping the sport exhilarating and deeply engaging.
