Hornets Acquire Jazz Guard Collin Sexton and Future Picks in Trade for Jusuf Nurkić

The Utah Jazz announced a trade sending guard Colin Sexton and a 2030 second-round pick to the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for center Jusuf Nurkić. Sexton, who has spent the last three seasons with the Jazz, will be joining his third NBA team next season. During the 2024-25 season, the 26-year-old guard averaged 18.4 points, 4.2 assists, and 2.7 rebounds. With Utah’s recent draft picks—including Rutgers’ Ace Bailey and Florida’s Walter Clayton Jr.—the team opted to move on from Sexton, freeing up playing time for their new rookies and younger players like Jordan Clarkson.

The Hornets acquired the 30-year-old Nurkić mid-season from the Phoenix Suns, who had previously traded him with a 2026 first-round pick to Charlotte for Cody Martin, Vasilije Micić, and a 2026 second-round pick. Nurkić played 25 games for the Suns before the trade and appeared in a total of 51 games between the Hornets and Suns last season, where he averaged 8.9 points and 7.8 rebounds. Over his career, Nurkić has averaged 11.8 points on 50.1% shooting and 8.8 rebounds per game.

Fan Take: This trade highlights the ongoing roster shuffle as teams seek to balance youth and experience, and it could significantly impact both teams’ dynamics going forward. For basketball fans, these moves underscore how strategic trades shape team futures and player development, keeping the NBA offseason lively and unpredictable.
