Jasmine Paolini defeats Coco Gouf to win the Italian Open

Rome – Jasmine Paolini started a party at Italico’s pho. And now the stage is set for Jannik Sinner to close it out.

Paolini took advantage of crowd support and beat Coco Goff 6-4, 6-2, becoming the first home player to win the Italian Open on Saturday in 40 years.

Italy was a top-ranked sinner who plays Carlos Alcaraz on the men’s final Sunday and managed to win the first sweep of the Roman singles title.

The last Italian woman to win the Open was Rafaela Ledge in Tarrant in 1985. The last local man to raise the trophy was Adriano Panatta in 1976.

Paolini pushed T down at her second championship point, and when Gauff couldn’t get it back, she celebrated with a big smile and raised her arms as she swiveled with joy.

“It doesn’t seem to be true to me,” Parini said. “I came here as a kid to watch this tournament, but it wasn’t even my dream to win it and maintain this trophy.”

Before the trophy ceremony, the crowd chanted “I, I, Oar, Jasmine, Jasmine” and Paolini responded by forming her hands into the shape of a heart.

“The crowd was incredible,” Parini said.

Paolini and partner Sara Errani will also compete in the women’s doubles final, playing Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens on Sunday of that trophy.

“Two weeks are two weeks and it’s not finished yet,” Parini said.

Italian President Sergio Matarera fully enforced the country’s tennis boom and attended the women’s final at Campo Centre.

Many fans were stretching out the Italian flag and screaming constantly.”Vijasmin“(” Go Jasmine “).

Paolini, who ranked fifth, was runner-up at the French Open and Wimbledon, leading Italy to the Billy Jung King Cup title last year. She and Elani won gold medals in doubles at the Parisio Philosophy.

Paolini will rank fourth on Monday’s rankings and will improve his position at the French Open draw starting next weekend.

At 29, Paolini has achieved far more than early in her career.

“I played her in Adelaide a long time ago,” Goff said. He mentioned the match the Americans won in 2021.

Certainly, despite her 5-foot-4 height, Paolini is able to produce powerful ground strokes, and she often misses the gouf.

“Today was my best match of the week,” she said.

Despite his success last year, Paolini recently made a coaching change, replacing Renzo Furlan with Marc Lopez. Erani is almost always with her, acting as an unofficial coach.

“She can play the best tennis in the world,” Gauff said.

Ranked third in third place, Gauff, the 2023 US Open champion, made a whopping 55 powerful errors on Paolini’s 20, hitting seven double faults on Paolini’s None.

“Maybe I could have served better and put more balls on the court,” Gouf said. “I can definitely do that. But she played to win today and deserved to win… with a double fault, and that’s what I need to improve.”

This is the second time Gauff has finished as runner-up in two clay court tournaments. She lost the Madrid Open Final to Alina Sabalenka two weeks ago.

Gouf was away from the longest match of her career. He won the semi-finals early on Friday, and won the 3.5 hour period over Zheng Qinwen.

Paolini also defeated Gouf at a clay court event held in Stuttgart, Germany in April.

Monica Ceres in 1990 was the last woman to wipe out the Roman singles and doubles titles that same year.
