It was a day to remember for Mick Abel, as the 23-year-old made his MLB debut for the Philadelphia Phillies and won one of the best performances Debutante has ever managed in Major League Baseball.

The 15th overall pick in the 2020 draft allowed five hits and avoided one walk, but reached nine strikeouts.

After this incredible performance, the young pitcher spoke about the trials and hardships he has faced so far, revealing the amount of work that was spent preparing for his opening appearance.

Abel said: “It’s pretty cool. It’s way more than I expected. It took a lot of reflection, I think that’s who I am as a person and the biggest thing I do is redefine the success of my version, and redefine what I’m going to get out there and try to get 1% better every day.

“I’m not just going back here. Everyone can say I’m there. I’m taking what I can do from today, what I did well, what I can do well, and how I can attack that in the future.”

Throwing 62/84 pitches for the strike, the youngster averaged 97.3mph with 33 four-seam fastballs. This shows how influential his performance is.

The Phillies have finished third in the National League after winning 28 of their 46 games so far, entering the three-game series against the Rockies in Colorado.
