PARIS — Three-time major champion Stan Wawrinka and French veteran Richard Gasquet were among eight men who were given wildcard entries for the French Open on Tuesday.

Wawrinka, who turned 40 in March, won the Australian Open in 2014 with her first Grand Slam single title, adding major wins at the 2015 French Open and 2016 US Open.

The Swiss player has fought injury in recent years and has dropped to 132nd in the ATP rankings.

Gasquet will play his final tournament in Paris. The 38-year-old Frenchman, who reached a career-high ranking of No. 7 in 2007, was once considered a potential winner in the Grand Slam, but failed to overcome the semi-finals in the majors. Gasquet has arrived twice in the Wimbledon semi-finals and has also made it to the US Open semi-finals. He was a member of the French team that won 16 tour titles and won the 2017 Davis Cup.
