Chelsea are trying to improve their defensive forces by signing Crystal Palace defender Mark Guech at the end of the season.
According to Football Insider Mick Brown, they identified the 24-year-old England International as a target, because of his calmness and quality. Brown believes Chelsea is about to sign someone like Marquinos of Paris Saint-Germain.
The Brazilian was an exception for PSG and he helped him reach the final of the UEFA Champions League this season.
Brown said:
“He looks like a midfielder playing behind him, he is very calm and calm.
“So Chelsea look at them, and that’s the type of player and influence they want behind.
“They don’t have that at the moment, but they’re working on it. So they’re looking at people like Mark Guech who do similar jobs.”
Chelsea needs Mark Guech
Guehi has been doing very well at Crystal Palace this season, helping him win the FA Cup. Aside from his defensive qualities, he is sure of the ball at his feet and he reads the game a lot. He’s definitely one of the best defenders in the league. He was able to prove that it was a great acquisition of Chelsea.
The Blues are trying to secure qualifying for the Champions League next season and improve their team during the summer transfer period.
Guehi would want to compete at a high level
Meanwhile, the 24-year-old defender would like to compete at a similarly high level. Joining Chelsea will provide him with a platform to compete in the Champions League next season. It is still unclear if he is ready to return to his boyhood club. He may feel he has an unfinished business at Stamford Bridge.
Guehi is also linked to Tottenham.
Crystal Palace is under pressure to sell players this summer, especially due to his contract situation. He finished his contract in 2026 and the Eagles can’t afford to lose a player of his quality on a free transfer.
