Paul George Opens Up About Getting Heckled by Philadelphia Fans Amid Eagles Celebration

When Paul George joined the Philadelphia 76ers, he was expected to be the key player to elevate the team into a strong title contender in the Eastern Conference. However, his first season fell short of expectations, marked by personal struggles and the team’s overall poor performance. The Sixers finished with a disappointing 24-58 record, with George playing only 41 games due to injuries. He averaged 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game, shooting 54.3% true shooting—the worst stats he’s posted since his second year in the NBA. Despite receiving the top contract among new players Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid (who also faced injury challenges), George was not warmly embraced by the Philadelphia fanbase.

George openly shared his frustration about his disappointing season, recalling a moment shortly after the Eagles’ Super Bowl win when fans yelled at him from his car, expressing their disappointment with a comment that they might have preferred Tobias Harris instead. George took it in stride, jokingly acknowledging the jab at Harris’s expense, who had been the previous wing player before George’s arrival. Harris had posted stronger numbers previously, adding to the scrutiny George faced.

Harris, now with the Detroit Pistons on a two-year, $52 million contract, recognized how poorly the Sixers performed during that tough season, which included a dismal stretch following the Eagles’ parade. George only played in six of those games, with the team going 1-5 in that span.

Despite the criticism, George and his friend Carmelo Anthony laughed off the fan interaction, with Melo praising how the tough New York fanbase, similar to Philadelphia’s, helped keep players sharp. George plans to remember this feedback as motivation to improve significantly in the 2025-26 season. A strong comeback depends heavily on Joel Embiid’s health, and George must return to All-Star form to help lead the Sixers back to prominence.
