Max Verstappen rejects F1 title talk after “Big Struggle” in Monaco

Max Verstappen refuses to think about this year’s Formula One World Championship, taking an approach that follows the Monaco Grand Prix, “by race.”

Verstappen finished fourth in Sunday’s race at Monte Carlo.

The Dutch led the race until the end of lap 77 before making their second mandatory pit stop.

Red Bull’s relaxed slow corners meant Verstappen couldn’t take on McLaren or Ferrari in qualifying.

Red Bull then went long in Barstappen, locking him out until the end of the penultimate lap in the case of red flags and safety cars.

Verstappen is 25 points behind championship leader Oscar Piastri ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend.

The Barcelona Circuit will probably fit Red Bull due to lack of slow corners.

When asked about the title race, Verstappen rejected the story about it after Monaco.

“Well, honestly, I’m not really thinking about the championship. I just want to go to the race by race,” Verstappen said as RN365 quoted.

“Of course, some trucks, you might be a little more competitive, some you’ll struggle a little more. And I think it was clear that we struggled again in Monaco.

“But honestly, we’ve struggled here with this new generation of cars every year. Only in 23 years we had a big pace advantage and you still won the race.

Verstappen: “We know our limits.”

Verstappen is usually not happy to miss the podium, but he felt that Red Bull was the most extracted from the package given the current “limitations”.

Red Bull excels in tracks made up of high-speed corners, winning in Japan and Imola.

“I think we did a good job considering our pace throughout the weekend,” Verstappen added.

“But yeah, I’m, of course, as a team, we’re never happy with the P4. But we have to accept that when we know the limitations in the car (that is).”
