On May 30, 2025, the Seattle Kraken announced the signing of defenseman Josh Mahura to a two-year, one-way contract extension with an average annual salary of $907,500, according to General Manager Jason Botteril. The 27-year-old played 64 games for the Kraken during the 2024-25 season, contributing nine assists, blocking 54 shots, and delivering 89 hits, ranking fifth on the team in that category.

Mahura, a 6-foot, 193-pound defenseman, was selected in the third round (85th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft by the Anaheim Ducks. Over his NHL career, he has played 255 games across the Kraken, Florida Panthers, and Ducks, accumulating 54 points (10 goals, 44 assists) and serving 110 penalty minutes. He was also part of the Florida Panthers’ roster during the 2024 Stanley Cup and has experience in 21 playoff games.

In related news, the Kraken also extended a two-year, one-way contract to veteran forward John Hayden, worth $775,000 annually, starting in the 2025-26 NHL season.

Fan Take: This contract extension signals the Kraken’s commitment to building a sturdy and experienced defensive lineup, crucial for their long-term competitiveness. Hockey fans can look forward to seeing Mahura’s continued impact on the ice as the team strengthens its core for future playoff runs.
