Lionel Messi’s Impact on Inter Miami
Lionel Messi netted five goals over the course of three Major League Soccer games, helping Inter Miami take an early 3-0 lead against the Columbus Crew on Saturday night. He scored twice in the first half, specifically in the 15th and 24th minutes, bringing his season total to 10 goals while ranking third in the league.
In addition to his scoring, Messi assisted Tadeo Allende’s goal in the 13th minute, contributing to a stellar performance that marks two consecutive games in which the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner achieved both two goals and an assist. Miami was aggressive from the start, launching seven shots in the first 25 minutes against a Columbus team that entered the match with only 19 goals allowed, ranking 8th in MLS.
Allende opened the scoring early, finishing off a long pass from Messi. Shortly after, Messi capitalized on a misjudgment by goalkeeper Nicholas Hagen, skillfully chipping the ball over him. For his second goal, former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets set up Messi with another long pass.
Editorial Opinion:
Messi’s continued excellence not only elevates Inter Miami but also brings increased attention and legitimacy to MLS as a competitive league. His presence could inspire more international stars to join MLS, changing the landscape of American soccer for the better.
