Ducks’ Dream Addition: Leading Point Producers Poised for Free Agency

Anaheim is heading into the 2025 offseason with $38.69 million in salary cap space and will need to invest $13.79 million to meet the minimum cap floor. The team’s ownership has empowered GM Pat Barbiek to spend as needed to push for a playoff appearance in the 2025-26 season. Apart from any contract extensions signed by July 1, the 2025 free agent pool is loaded with star players who could quickly become franchise changers, as well as solid contributors to various depth positions.

As of now, the Ducks have 16 players under contract for the 2025-26 season, with five restricted free agents still controlled by the team. The focus has been on improving traditionally weak areas from the 2024-25 season, where the Ducks ranked near the bottom in key stats like points per game, goals per game, and power play percentage. General Manager Verbeek emphasized the need to boost goal scoring, while head coach Joel Quenneville values puck possession.

The Ducks aim to target three key roster spots through free agency: top forward producers, two-way middle-six centers, and mobile defensemen. Anaheim’s blend of talented young players and seasoned veterans could be unlocked further with the right offensive additions.

Key potential free agent targets include Mitch Marner, a proven 100-point scorer with both offensive and defensive skills, forecasted to command a 7-year deal worth about $13 million annually. Marner would bring elite talent to the Ducks’ top line alongside Leo Carlson and Cutter Gautier. Another candidate is Nikolaj Ehlers, a speedy winger hitting around 65 points a season, though injury-prone, offering dynamic offensive play, particularly when paired with Mason McTavish. Brock Boeser, known for his goal-scoring ability, could also fit well, providing scoring depth from the right side with a projected 6-year, $8.5 million average deal.

Additional free agents’ names in the frame include Matt Duchene, John Tavares, Brock Nelson, Patrick Kane, and Ryan Donato, who could bring proven point production to the Ducks’ roster. While free agents often come with a high price, adding established offensive stars could be transformative for Anaheim’s push to be competitive.

Fan Take: This offseason strategy is critical for Ducks fans hungry to see their team return to playoff contention. The potential acquisition of top-tier free agents like Mitch Marner could elevate Anaheim’s status in the NHL and bring more excitement and competitiveness to the sport.
